I don't ever read poetry, but this song isn't really that; this drawing illustrates a sentence from Solomon's Song of Songs that has been my favorite for years -

"Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest
is my beloved among the young men.
I delight to sit in his shade,
and his fruit is sweet to my taste."

In Croatian:
"Što je jabuka među drvetima šumskim, to je dragi moj među momcima; željeh hlada njezina, i sjedoh, i rod je njezin sladak grlu mojemu" - preveo Đuro Daničić

I wanted to do it in a naive style similar to an illustrated fairytale I had as a kid and it got lost (and I wish I could find) - but it turned out different, with much more intense, earthier tones. Hard to get colors look like they do in real life.
I wish to do a few more and print out one booklet for myself.


The Song of Songs is one of the scrolls found in the last section of the Tanakh, known as the Ketuvim (or "Writings"). It is unique within the Hebrew Bible: it shows no interest in Law or Covenant or the God of Israel...; it celebrates sexual love, giving "the voices of two lovers, praising each other, yearning for each other. The two are in harmony, each desiring the other...; the women of Jerusalem form a chorus to the lovers, functioning as an audience whose participation in the lovers' erotic encounters facilitates the participation of the reader.

The introduction calls the poem "the song of songs", a construction commonly used in Scriptural Hebrew to show something as the greatest and most beautiful of its class.
A dialogue between the lovers follows: the woman asks the man to meet; he replies with a lightly teasing tone.
Place-names feature heavily: her neck is like the Tower of David, her smell like the scent of Lebanon.
The woman invites the man to enter the garden and taste the fruits. The man accepts the invitation, and a third party tells them to eat, drink, "and be drunk with love".
