THE OLDEST VENUS

The discovery that meant there is more to this cave.

A large figurine may not have been in the best shape when it was found; it was separated into four fragments, with head missing.

What makes it more impressive than any other, younger Venus, is that she has all the limbs hollow, filled with terracotta balls and produces a magical sound.

It is 12.5 centimeters tall and quite heavy, although hollow. It has a lovely patina, which stands out. It is overall brown, with reddish specks.

It was made about 18 000 years B.C. and it is decorated with cave art.

One of the thoughts that occurred was a possibility that the figurine represented a tattooed individual.

One thing was certain; the presence of cave art on its body meant the archeologists will continue to work on the site and look for the art on the walls until it is there.
