KOUROS OF THE HEARTH

Representations of men in the paleolithic are more than rare. So how come this site has two - and are there more?

Two male statuettes tell the story of the hunters and warriors of this culture; male statues are a very rare occurrence in the Paleolithic. For this very reason, they aroused great public curiosity. During the first year of work at the site, only one male figurine was found, which prompted archaeologists to ask themselves; why only one to nine female figures? What does this tell us about the locality? What can we learn about the community that lived there? How were roles divided in society and is it possible that other kouros were destroyed during the re-excavation of the graves of their contemporaries? We hope that a great new, exciting adventure awaits us in which we will be able to say something more about one of the rare depictions of Paleolithic men.
