THE TRUTH

The objects and records presented in this archive are fictional constructions created by the artist. This revelation constitutes a deliberate rupture with the preceding institutional tone, inviting the visitor to reconsider the authority they had already assigned to the objects.

The Cycle of Unverified Creation

The project presents a collection of objects that appear to belong to an archaeological record: figurines, vessels, fragments and other artefacts accompanied by documentation, reconstruction guides, maps and institutional-looking records. Their histories are plausible, their physical appearance suggests age and use, and their documentation provides the visual language of authority.

The cycle begins with the familiar mechanism through which information becomes accepted as fact. We see it in life, especially with fake news...

What may have begun as speculation, a misunderstanding or even a lie can acquire an increasingly convincing appearance simply through repetition. A lie told enough times becomes the truth.

This process is particularly powerful when a claim is accompanied by something that appears to be evidence.

Once these elements are assembled, the viewer is no longer simply being told a story - they are given the sensation of having discovered it themselves.

The ARCHIVE OF UNVERIFIED OBJECTS borrows the language of archaeology, museums, archives and scientific documentation not to imitate them perfectly, but to examine the authority we instinctively assign to their forms. The objects are real, but the histories surrounding them are not; the evidence exists, but its interpretation has been constructed.

The cycle gives the collector the opportunity to take part in the project - in the making o the work itself. It creates more joy if the collector ever had desire to become an archaeologist, researcher or anything such; it deepens the experience and connection to the object...

About the Artist

MAGDALENA MODRIC
Works primarily as a sculptor, using clay to explore
how history, material culture, and collective beliefs shape
our perception of reality. Using archaeology, mythology,
and fiction, she creates objects that question authenticity,
authority, and the ways meaning is constructed.
Her work encourages the interpretation of existing
narratives and invites viewers to reflect on the
relationships among objects, context, and the systems that
give them significance.
